Our story

It started with one
grumbly tummy.

A microbiome scientist, a two-and-a-half-year-old with a stubborn bellyache, and a kitchen-table promise: gut health that kids would actually look forward to.

Gutsies began the way most good ideas do — with a problem nobody could ignore. Karen's nephew Rüzgâr had the kind of tummy troubles that turned breakfast into a negotiation and car rides into a gamble. The kids' probiotics on the shelf were either chalky, sugary candy in disguise, or impossible to get past a toddler's taste buds.

So Karen did what microbiome specialists do: she went to the research. Clinically studied strains that actually survive the trip. Prebiotic fiber to feed them. Real fruit flavors, no artificial anything, and every batch tested for heavy metals. Then came the hard part — making Rüzgâr ask for it.

Enter Pip, Bloom, and Sunny. The day Rüzgâr named the gummies his "belly buddies" and promoted his aunt to Hala Supreme — hala is Turkish for auntie — we knew we had something. Gutsies is that kitchen-table promise, in a jar: gut health kids look forward to, backed by science parents can check.

Who's behind Gutsies

Karen Pendergrass, Gutsies founder and microbiome specialist

Karen Pendergrass

Co-founder · Microbiome Specialist · Founder, MicrobiomeMedicine.com

Karen has spent her career studying the trillions of microbes that keep us healthy — and publishing about it at MicrobiomeMedicine.com. She formulates every Gutsies product and reads the studies so you don't have to.

Known to Rüzgâr as "Hala Supreme"

Rüzgâr

Co-founder · Chief Taste Tester

The nephew who started it all — two and a half, and already the toughest palate in the business. Rüzgâr personally vetoes anything chalky, weird, or "too vitamin-y." If a flavor makes it into a jar, it survived his tasting panel.

Why Karen's name is on the label

Karen Pendergrass is a microbiome specialist and the founder of MicrobiomeMedicine.com, where she translates microbiome research into practice for clinicians and families. At Gutsies, she personally formulates every product — choosing named strains with pediatric evidence, dosing CFU at end of shelf life, and matching formulations to developmental stage rather than a generic "kids 2–12" label.

Her standard is simple: nothing goes in a jar she wouldn't hand to Rüzgâr, and nothing ships without a public certificate of analysis she'd be happy to defend to a room full of pediatricians.

What we won't budge on

Science first

Clinically studied strains at meaningful doses — not fairy-dusted labels. Every claim traces back to research.

Tested, then tested again

Every batch is third-party tested and Heavy Metal Tested & Certified. Certificates available on request, always.

Kids get a vote

If kids won't ask for it, it doesn't ship. Taste testing is a formal step in our process — Rüzgâr presiding.
